Adding and replacing images

Replace image placeholders on your site by uploading your own picture, pasting a link, or generating one with AI, plus tips on sizes and formats.

Your generated site may include image placeholders so the design looks complete from day one. When you're ready, you can replace any placeholder — or update an existing picture — right inside the content editor. You have three ways to add an image, so you can use what you already have or create something new.

Three ways to add an image

When you choose to replace an image, you can:

  • Upload your own. Pick a file from your device. This is best when you have your own photos, logos, or product shots.
  • Use a link. Paste the URL of an image that's already hosted online. Make sure you have the right to use it and that the link is permanent and public.
  • Generate with AI. Describe the image you want and let the AI create one. This is handy when you don't have a suitable photo on hand. Generating an image uses AI usage.

Replacing a placeholder

Open the content editor for your site from your dashboard, find the image you want to change, and choose to replace it. Select upload, link, or AI generate, set your image, then save. As with text edits, your changes go live when you re-publish the site — see Editing your website content for the save-and-publish flow.

Recommended formats and sizes

For crisp, fast-loading images, keep a few guidelines in mind:

  • Formats: use JPG or PNG for photos and graphics, or WEBP for the best balance of quality and small file size. Use PNG when you need a transparent background, such as a logo.
  • Resolution: a width of around 1,200–2,000 pixels works well for most hero and section images. Smaller decorative images can be smaller.
  • File size: keep files lean. Large images slow down your page, so compress photos before uploading where you can.
  • Aspect ratio: match the placeholder's shape — wide banners for heroes, squarer images for cards — so nothing looks stretched or cropped oddly.

Tips for good results

Use high-quality, well-lit photos that reflect your real business or work. When generating with AI, write a clear, specific description — mention the subject, style, and mood — and review the result before you keep it. If you're using a link, double-check it still loads after publishing, since external images can break if the host removes them.

Uploaded files follow the platform's general upload limits, so very large originals may be rejected — resize or compress them first. Always make sure you own or have permission to use any image you add.
