Before you generate, you can set optional design preferences that steer how your site looks and feels. You don't have to touch any of them, since the AI will make sensible choices on its own, but they're a great way to nudge the result toward your taste. Here's what you can control.
Single-page or multipage
First, decide on the overall structure. A single-page layout puts everything on one scrolling page, which is clean and direct, and works well for a portfolio or simple profile. A multipage layout spreads your content across separate pages with navigation between them, which suits businesses with several services or sections. The AI builds a matching navigation menu either way, and you can adjust it later in the editor.
Colors
You can choose a background color and an accent color to set the mood of your site. The accent color typically appears on buttons, links, and highlights, while the background sets the overall canvas. Pick colors that match your brand or the feeling you want, and the AI will weave them through the design.
Font
You can select a font to shape the personality of your text, from clean and modern to more classic and editorial. The font choice affects how professional, friendly, or distinctive your site reads at a glance.
Section layout style
You can also choose a section layout style, which influences how each part of the page is arranged and spaced. This sets the rhythm of the site, whether you prefer something compact and dense or open and airy.
Feature toggles
Beyond looks, you can turn on optional features before generating:
- Contact form — add a form so visitors can reach you, with messages collected in an inbox.
- Image placeholders — reserve spots for images you can fill in later in the content editor.
- Google Map — embed a map, handy for businesses with a physical location.
These toggles let you shape what's on the page, not just how it looks.
The design instruction
For finer control over tone, you can add a short free-text design instruction of up to 300 characters. This is the place to describe the look and feel in your own words, for example a mood, a style reference, or how formal or playful you want it. Keep it about the design, not the content. Use it to say things like "warm and minimal, lots of whitespace, friendly tone," and leave your actual text in the source document, as explained in preparing a great source document.
How preferences fit into generation
Your preferences and design instruction guide the blueprint stage of the AI pipeline, where the color palette, layout, and sections are decided. You can read more in how AI website generation works. Because every generation is unique, you can change your preferences and regenerate to explore different directions, as covered in regenerating your website.
Experiment freely, and if you can't get the look you're after, open a ticket from support and we'll share some pointers.
